X

Received wisdom is not necessarily any sort of wisdom at all. Repetition never turns a lie into truth. Being educated to believe placing an X in a box once every five years results in democracy or a democratic system of operation does not make it so. X marks the spot you conceded willing submission to having no say in no thing during the period between marking that X and the next invitation extended by bourgeois democracy to express every opinion you hold on every political, moral and philosophical issue. Then too your input will have all the subtlety of a hastily scrawled X.

P’ing in the wind

Political parties formed predominantly on the basis of a primary campaign issue and which purport to be “not left wing or right wing” positively prompt closer inspection for their apparent absence of political persuasion.  Irrespective of how progressive a political party may appear on its approach to the primary issue around which it has formed, a party that is “not left wing or right wing” is pregnant with potential to become either left-wing in nature or — more  worringly from the perspective of the greater majority of people — right wing.  Seemingly progressive liberal facades easily mask regressive neo-liberal objectives.

While we might meditate upon the metaphysical absence of a full glass, it is important to value the reality and actuality of the actually existing contents of the glass.  And indeed the glass itself.
